08/16/2010Nice enviroment, clean rooms. my kids loved the pool. great for famlies. the breakfast was not as good as other places i have stayed. the breakfast needs some work.

Hotel charge made without my authorization

After staying just one night, and having pre-paid for the room & taxes, this hotel charged on my visa card $*, without informing me. Yet when I saw this and telephoned them after I was home, they stated that this is routine, and that the money would "reverse" back after several days. How can this be a legal or fair practice? I owed nothing, yet they withdraw the funds from my bank. I would not stay in any place which does not openly track such charges, and not give the customer a receipt. I was told this is practice of Marriott Hotel chain, and Carlson. However, when checking in, this hotel was privately owned, according to a sign at the desk. I travel often, and have never encountered this anywhere before.

Overall I had a very enjoyable stay. The facilities are quite clean and up to date. The room was clean and quiet. I appreciated the large bathroom. Although very close to the airport, noise was not a problem at all. Rooms seem to be quite soundproof as I never heard anybody in the hall and when outside in the hallway could not hear my TV inside. Front desk staff were very friendly and quite helpful with suggestions for places to eat and to get transportation. I asked for extra coffee filters for the provided coffee maker. Staff delivered a big handful, not the 3 or 4 that I usually get when I make that request. Free breakfast was more than adequate. Here are the only minor glitches: Entry door lock had a problem. Had to slide my key in 4/5/6 times to unlock. Reported to the front desk but I don't know that anybody ever checked it out. Faucets are backwards. Have to move the handle to the RIGHT to get HOT water. Housekeeping made the bed, tidied up, clean towels, etc but didn't empty the overflowing waste basket. Bed was way too soft for me. Somebody else might like them that way. Bottom line... I will stay here if I ever have the need to overnight in Portland again.
